Turkish Match Turns Violent as Fenerbahce’s President is Pushed Off the Pitch
In the second half of the match between Fenerbahce and Izmir’s Goztepe, tensions escalated dramatically. Following the first half, Fenerbahce President Ali Koç visited the away fan section, where objects were thrown from the Goztepe supporters’ area.
Incident Details
As Koç returned to his designated area during the second half, bottles of water were hurled from the Goztepe section, striking him and causing him to fall to the ground. Earlier, before the start of the second half, Koç had gone down to the sidelines to join the Fenerbahce fans in the stands. However, he was pelted with foreign objects as he made his way back.
Koç had gone to the stands to address the situation where some Fenerbahce fans were not allowed into the away section. After spending about five minutes there, he left the stand and was walking along the sidelines when he was hit by someone, causing him to fall. He quickly got up and returned to the protocol tribune.
Fenerbahce’s Response
Following the match, Fenerbahce TV issued a strong statement, condemning the violence: “We are witnessing a night of football terrorism. The situation is extremely dangerous.”
